The year 2010 marks the 200th anniversary of Frederic Chopin’s birth. Chopin and his work makes us Poles proud. He was born in Warsaw area and then grew up in Warsaw which he later missed while abroad. Warsaw and its surroundings are the best place to search the roots of Chopin’s family as it all started here.... Visit places where Chopin lived, composed and fell in love, listen to Chopin’s music in its natural enviroment - Warsaw

Warsaw was liberated in January 1945, and by 1948 a Communist regime firmly controlled Poland. Under the Communists, Warsaw was physically restored but the terror began. Rebuilding of Warsaw coincided with emergence of socialist realism. The city fate was determined by Moscow, a fact symbolized by the Palace of Culture (originally named in honour of Joseph Stalin) towering over the city centre since 1955.
